Sherpa Motorsports Racing Conquers the 2023 Ultra4 Big Sky 200 in the 4600 Stock Class
By Trevor Knudsen
Sherpa Motorsports recently competed in the heart-pounding Ultra4 Big Sky 200 in Broadview, Montana. Competing in the highly competitive 4600 Stock Class, they faced both familiar and unexpected challenges throughout the race. With solid car prep, strategic planning, and a fantastic team, Sherpa Motorsports left a lasting impression on the off-road racing community. Sherpa Motorsports had meticulously prepared their car, ensuring it was in peak condition for the demanding race. Their hard work paid off as the car performed flawlessly throughout the event, handling every hit, corner, and jump with ease despite some minor fueling issues.
Our familiarity with the course from the previous year proved to be advantageous. The team had done their homework, thoroughly studying the course and updating their notes during a solid lap of pre-running. This enabled them to dial in their qualifying course, setting the fastest qualifying lap in the 4600 class and even starting ahead of over half of the 4500 class. With a great starting position, we were determined to make the most of our advantage. Our strategy was to gauge their pace on the first lap, but we faced a minor setback when they were passed early on by Kracker Fab Motorsports. Undeterred, we settled into a good pace, closely following our competitor. Behind them, the battle in the 4600 class intensified, with competitors making up time on us and Kracker Fab. Upon realizing this, we picked up our pace during the second lap, engaging in thrilling back-and-forth battles with several 4600 cars. However, attrition began to take its toll on the racers, including Sherpa Motorsports. Towards the end of the lap, we experienced fuel-cutting issues, requiring a fuel filter change. Though this setback cost us approximately 2 minutes, it fueled our determination to make an impressive comeback. Despite the challenges we faced, We gave it our all on the third and final lap. Our motivation fueled us to knock off almost 6 minutes from our previous lap time. With our efforts, we secured a well-deserved second-place finish at the Big Sky 200, following closely behind the talented racer John Williams.
Sherpa Motorsports Racing extends its heartfelt gratitude to its dedicated team, supportive families, incredible sponsors, and loyal fanbase. It is the collective effort and support that drives them to push their limits and achieve remarkable feats in the world of off-road racing.
