PRODUCT QUESTIONS
Can I still use my sunroof?
All of our racks are designed to allow the sunroof to maintain 100% of its functionality. Visibility is determined by how you choose to configure your rack and where the factory mounting points are located. Tilt and slide away!
What is the difference between the half height and full height fairing options?
The only difference between the half height and full height options are strictly in regards to the height of the wind fairing on the front of the roof rack. Most other companies define this as having a "light bar cut out", but we make ours a little different. Our rack uses a shorter fairing to leave room for a single row light bar without limiting you to the size of light bar you can install. If you are not planning to install a light bar on your roof rack then you would want to select the "full height" option. Other than the space for the light bar, the racks are completely the same. Fairings can also be purchased separately down the road if you change your mind!
Can I mount accessories (kayak rack, bike rack, ski rack, cargo box) you don’t make attachments for?
Yes! Our crossbars make it easy to mount just about anything to them. Using 1/4"-20 hardware with drop-in tnuts, 1/4"-20 carriage bolts, or any clamp style mounts that fit our 1"x2" crossbar, you should be good to go!
How much weight will a full rack system support?
Our rack systems are typically designed to support roughly 600LBS static and 300LBS dynamic. For example this equates to a standard roof top tent while on the trail and a few people in the tent when stopped. This will change based on the rack, so please visit the specific product page for more information.
*Sherpa is not responsible for failure due to improper use or loading. All load ratings are when evenly loaded and distributed across the rack. It is recommended that customers with hardshell tents distribute their load across 4 crossbars when installing.
Why do you not have holes in the top of your crossbars for inserting mounting hardware like some of the other companies do?
We do not have holes in the crossbars like some of the other companies do, and this is by design. Instead, we use the half-moon shaped drop-in t-nuts to make mounting easier than any other option. This also allows you to mount items right near the edge of the crossbar, where you would typically find these holes.
Do your crossbars sit flush with the top of the sideplates?
The rails sit 1/32" below the sides of the rack. For the purposes of installing a tent that overhangs, this is considered flush and you shouldn't have any issues.
What height of Sherpa Tent Mounts should I be using?
The only time the “Tall (1”)” mounts are required would be:
If you are mounting to a truck bed topper and you have a cab rack to account for independent bed flex, or
If you have a tent with recessed mounting tracks and are looking to mount an awning mount underneath the tent
Other than these times, it is more a personal preference on height as some would like their tents as low as possible and others prefer more clearance underneath.
Can I still mount an awning if I use the “Short (0.5”)” Tent Mounts?
You will have enough clearance for the Sherpa Awning Mounts just using the 0.5” tent mounts as long as you have tracks on the bottom of your tent. If you have recessed tracks that go into the base of your tent, then you would need the tall mounts in order to have enough clearance for the awning mounts.
Can I take my rack through a carwash?
We do not recommend taking your vehicle through an automatic car wash with a rack installed.
Do you make custom roof racks?
We do not, sorry!

INSTALL QUESTIONS
All of our install guides are located on our Instructions page.
Do you have any recommendations for a shop in my area that could help install my rack?
Please check out our Dealer Locator to see shops we work with closest to your location. You can also filter by stocking dealer or installer to see if they might have inventory on hand or if they offer installation. You will also be able to see all of their contact information there so you can reach out to them with any additional questions.
Do you do installs at your facility in Berthoud, CO?
If you happen to be in Northern Colorado, we do offer installs at our facility in Berthoud, CO. *Installs are subject to an additional charge.
How long does a typical install take?
With a couple sets of hands and install should take roughly 1-2 hours for a standard non-drill rack.
How much should I tighten my mounts?
We recommend tightening your mounting brackets until the bonded washers become flat. If your washers concave then you have gone too far. Over-tightening mounting brackets can result in damage to the vehicle.
Do I need to use silicone when installing my rack system?
Our non-drill rack systems are engineered to be used without additional sealants beyond our rubber spacers.
Drill racks or some roofs that have additional unused holes do require silicon.
Why is some of my hardware silver when the rest is black?
This regular stainless hardware (silver) is intended for use on the underside of the crossbars when mounting the primary support brackets.
Where should the front wind fairing be positioned during install?
On most rack systems the fairing will sit even with the tip of the side plate. In some cases you may need to reposition the fairing for optimal wind noise reduction. Every vehicle is different and may have different accessories outfitted. This is why we offer so much adjustability in our rack systems.
Do I need to paint my rack if it is not powder coated?
We use aluminum components and stainless hardware, meaning you don’t have to worry about rust if paint just isn’t your cup of tea.
*Avoid painting the tracks/slots on the crossbars. This may impact the ability of hardware to slide into them.
When I installed my light bar and wind fairing according the the directions, the wind fairing was blocking a portion of the light.
This is on purpose. The fairing was designed, when used in conjunction with our light bar brackets, to create a cut off so that you don’t have glare from the light bar on your hood.
